Description: Discussion of the lyrics of the students favorite pop songs: heartbreak, infatuation, and mutual love. How well do these lyrics relate to real life? Students will participate in weekly assignments where students email the lyrics of an all time favorite song and current favorite explaining what the lyrics mean to them.
Professor Tom Scheff, is Professor Emeritus of Sociology, University of California, Santa Barbara. He is a former Chair of the section on the Sociology of Emotions, American Sociological Association, and President of the Pacific Sociological Association. His fields of research are social psychology, emotions, and mental illness. His current studies concern solidarity-alienation and the emotional/relational world. His most recent books are Goffman Unbound (2006) and Easy Rider (2007).
