Description: A look at China today, with focus on aspects of the nation undergoing rapid change. Topics include the rebuilding of China’s cities, ambitious public works projects, government-sponsored spectacles and the internet and censorship, China’s diplomacy in the Third World, migratory labor, and political protest and dissent.
Professor Ronald Egan, East Asian Studies, areas of research are Chinese literature and history, Chinese cultural studies. He teaches EACS 4A, Chinese 101A-B, and Chinese 158.
