Description:
This course will offer students the chance to get a global view of the Basque Country’s politics and institutional organization within the European Union. By the end of this course successful students will be able to: demonstrate knowledge on the Basque Country’s politics and Basque Institutional organizations; articulate characteristics unique to Basque politics; discuss major problems facing Basque politics.

Professor Viola Miglio, Spanish & Portugquese, research interests lie mainly in linguistics, but she also has a degree in Icelandic language and literature & language. Professor Miglio teaches linguistics courses, linguistics approaches to translation, as well as a course on Celtic influences on Galititian literature.

Guest lecturer: Professor Xabier Irujo, University of Nevada, Reno, has two PhD’s (in History and Philosophy, respectively), and holds a research position at the University of Nevada Reno, where he also teaches Basque contemporary history and politics. He has published a number of books on these subjects, the most recent one being on the bombing of Gernika in 1937 (in press, University of Nevada Press).
