The peoples of Central America have been arriving in what is now the U.S. for centuries, but especially since the 1970s. This seminar explores this rich multinational history, paying close attention especially to the impact of race, class, gender, and religion in the lives of the women and men making the difficult decision to leave their homelands.
Professor Horacio N. Roque-Ramirez, Chicana & Chicano Studies, teaches and writes on LGBT/queer Latina and Latino history and culture, Central America history and migrations, the Salvadoran dispora, and oral history theories and methods. Website: www.chicst.ucsb.edu/faculty/
