Description:
This seminar will explore the representation of black women in Hollywood film since the 1970s. We will examine how black women are defined by race, gender, class and sexuality in popular films from the Blaxploitation, Drama, Action and Comedy genres.
Professor Mireille Miller-Young, Department of Feminist Studies, is an Assistant Professor in her department. Her research interests are in race, gender, and sexuality in film and visual culture, feminist theory, and sex work. She teaches courses in Women of Color Feminism (wmst 60), Pornography (wmst 151), and Feminist Research and Practice (wmst 182).
